Forgotten Realms: (by Ed Greenwood with contributions from many other writers over the years) This setting was first published in 1987. It has proved to be one of the most enduring settings for D&D as materials for it have been published in all four editions. It features a wide range of locations and is big enough for the DM to put some of his or her own ideas into it. (In other words the DM can make up a kingdom that is not part of the TSR/WOTC canon and place that kingdom right next to somewhere that is part of the canon).
(Commentary still under construction)
